Below is the interview with Younameit, done 21 July 2009 Tuesday, 17:00:00 your time.
Are you overweight? Or have you ever been overweight?
No, but I have been in the past.
If you are overweight, what do you think is the reason FOR YOU?
In the past it was simply too many empty calories and not enough exercise.
What do you think is the reason FOR OTHER OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE?
I think its really the same for everyone-too many calories
and not enough exercise.
Are you on a diet at the moment?
I am always watching my calories, so I will say yes.
What does diet mean for you?
a- Not to eat and starve myself.
b- Cutting the calories.
c- Cutting the calories plus increasing the exercise.
d- Getting all the things my body needs with less calories.
e- Getting all the things my body needs with less calories plus increasing the exercise.
f- Eating as usual but increasing the exercise.
g- Healthy life style.
h- Your own definition. Please type.
Eating what you like and feeling good about what you
put in your body, not what you see on TV commercials.
Do you expect your diet to be successful, if so why? If not why?
I like knowing that if I eat nutritious foods I can feel satisfied.
And its so much easier to steer clear of the junk foods (that are so readily available) when you fill up on whole grains and vegetables.
Have you ever managed to lose weight, but then gain again? If yes, why and how did you get back some of the weight?
Yes, I tend to gain a few pounds after the first of the year. I think it's winter boredom. I have to be aware that this happens and get on that eliptical.... your jeans won't lie to you
If you have ever succeeded to achieve your diet goals, what is it that you`ve done right?
I donated my old clothes to a local mission. If all your clothes are the same size its easy to tell if its time to cut back on the
snacks or maybe even the margaritas!!!!
Please tell us 3 tips for a successful diet. We are all ears.
Be aware of what you are eating - quality nutrition is best. Do your best to exercise every day - walk, cycle, lift a few weights, anything that gets you moving. Make your health your first priority.
What are you observing in other dieters as mistakes?
Obsessing over food. You have to eat to fuel your body. You can't have the energy to exercise if you are starving yourself.
Please tell us some important mistakes you did in your diets. We can learn from them.
Diet pills - they will backfire on you. When they wore off
I was ravenous! Also, if you make an unhealthy food choice or skip exercising one day, don't worry too much about it, promise yourself to do better tomorrow.
If you never managed to get thin until now, why do you think? A criticizing mother? Pizza Hut?
Taking care of others and putting myself last on the list. There never seemed to be enough hours in the day and I often felt tired.
How should your close ones treat you as a dieter? Should they better be quiet on the subject, or should they push you?
Maybe they should have fruit for dessert instead of the chocolate cake....maybe I should suggest that to them.
If you are living with others, how do you handle the problem of you having special diet meals while others have their usual meals?
I usually make dinner for everyone, I just control my portions of the high calorie items so I don't overdo it. Be aware of the calories when meal planning so that everything your serving isn't high in calories. Forget the gravies, creamed or cheese sauces. Your family doesn't need clogged arteries any more than you do.
How do you cope with eating less? For some people it really hurts and is like hell. For some others, they enjoy the light feeling. How about you?
I would say I eat less - less saturated fat, less empty calories, but I eat more to feel full longer - whole wheat bread, brown rice, lots of vegetables (cooked, raw, in salads, soups, ect.). Strawberries, bananas, blueberries, with plain fat free yogurt and a teaspoon of honey for dessert , or even at night when you have a craving for something sweet.
Could you warn us about some diet methods you got involved with that did not work?
As I said before, diet pills. Don't waste your money.
Could you tell us some diet methods you got involved with that did work.
Make a sandwich instead of a salad. If you start with a good whole wheat bread, some turkey or chicken breast, a little cheese maybe, and pile on the romaine lettuce, tomato, fresh sprouts, some banana pepper for tanginess, you will feel full. A salad may be piled with high fat toppings, less protein, and no complex carbs to keep you going.
Where do you stand on the subject of exercise?
Eat for energy, exercise for endurance. No matter what you have to get done each day, if you exercise regularly, you will have more stamina to get things done.
Is there anything you`d care to say about diets?
Use terms like whole foods or nutritious foods....diet or diet foods sounds temporary - like you're depriving yourself for a little while, instead of changing how and what you eat.
